Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop and to validate an instrument on parental insight, which can then be used during child counseling and for parental education. I first clarify the concept of insight and divide insight into three composite elements: cognitive insight, emotional insight and behavioral change. The clarification resulted in each composite element being seen to consist of sub-factors. 58 questions ware then developed, based on the underlying elements. Exploratory Factor Analysis was then conducted and found three composing elements and eight factors for the parental insight instrument. Confirmatory Factor Analysis(CFA) was also conducted and the results confirmed the hypothesized models relating to 54 of the 58 questions. Finally, the reliability was examined and revealed to relatively high with .85 for cognitive insight, .89 for emotional insight and .92 for behavioral change. Concurrent validity was conducted with other instruments such as to ``parental effectiveness`` and ``maternal behavior research instrument`` to confirm the newly developed instrument. The results indicated that the parental insight instrument had an appropriate degree of correlation as the previous studies reported.
